Miraculous Recovery: Drenched and Freezing Kittens Brought Back to Life by Unwavering Family

Two bonded kittens had their lives turned around with the help of a family that never gave up on them.

Last month, a litter of 10-day-old kittens were found in poor conditions and brought to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter in Texas. They were all drenched and so cold to the point that their temperatures didn’t register on the thermometer.

Shelter staff went right to work, warming up the kittens and trying to stabilize their temperatures. Megyn, a foster volunteer, was contacted and immediately stepped up to help.

“When I arrived, I started assessing their condition. All had wounds, one had rear paralysis, and another was having trouble breathing,” Megyn shared with Love Meow.

Despite their very best effort to save them all, two kittens lost their fight. “(The remaining babies) Lenny and Carl were still fighting despite their wounds and being emaciated,” Megyn added.

“Within an hour I went from hopeful to heartbroken, but I kept fighting. We’re going to give them everything we’ve got to give them the best shot at a healthy, happy life.”

The kittens didn’t have enough strength to eat, so Megyn tube-fed them around the clock. After two days of painstaking care, the feline brothers started perking up and latching.

They immediately clung to their humans once they gained strength, and soaked up all the love they could get.

“Knowing that they were born during the unprecedented Texas winter storm, and that they arrived in such a terrible state, my optimism for their outcome was guarded. Thankfully, they are fighters and quickly overcame their rough start to life.”

In no time, Carl the gray and white kitten became an expert bottle baby and quickly overtook his brother in weight. “I didn’t think this guy would make it through the first night, so to see him thriving now is a huge sigh of relief.”

After four weeks in foster care, the two brothers reached the one-pound mark and began transitioning to eating big kitty food.

“Carl was the one who pushed me to fight so hard as he immediately purred the minute he was touched. He’s always had a calm, sweet way about him,” Megyn added.

“Lenny has always been the goofball and is as cuddly as can be. He has a habit of quickly falling asleep mid-play when he’s playing on his back.”

The two brothers share a very special bond and have been each other’s bolster through the hardest times. The kittens are turning seven weeks old and have surpassed every milestone with flying colors.

“They are true best friends who are constantly found cuddling one another. Lenny especially likes to have his armed wrapped around his brother during naps,” Megyn shared with Love Meow.

Lenny and Carl adore other furry residents in the house and have befriended a fellow rescued cat named Oliver.

Oliver came to the rescue with injuries and subsequent disabilities. The brave cat has made incredible strides and is a gentle soul despite what he has gone through.

“The kittens immediately loved him. Oliver was hesitant but curious at first, but quickly came around.”

The brother duo insisted on hanging out with Oliver and keeping him company. It didn’t take long for two of them to win him over.

“(Now), Oliver wants to be near the kittens all the time to supervise play or snuggle. And in return, they absolutely adore him and seek him out. I’m grateful he’s found company in these two goofy boys.”

Lenny and Carl still have a lot of growing to do before they are ready to find their forever home. They have come so far since the day they were found in the cold, and are blossoming into healthy, playful young cats.

Lenny continues to shower his brother with cuddles every day.
