A Cat With A Rare Disease Is Overjoyed To Be Adopted By His Best Friend

When Georgina Price met Toby, she knew he was the perfect person and she brought him not only home but his best friend as well. Toby the cat is six years old and looks wise beyond his years.

He has feline asthenia gravis (FCA), a condition in which a cat’s skin is very fragile, loose and bruises easily, also known as human Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. His body is not producing collagen properly. It doesn’t heal as it should, and it’s easy to leave a scar.

But that doesn’t stop her from loving the sweet kitty. When Georgina and her fiancé Christopher Lardner met Toby, he was crouched in the corner of the shelter, hiding behind his best friend, Quinton. “I saw them on the website and immediately fell in love with them,” says Georgina. “When we met them they were both so scared and huddled right behind. Toby just hid behind Quinton the whole time, shaking. I couldn’t even touch him because he was so scared.”

When the shelter brought them in, they were in bad shape. Quinton had to have all of his teeth extracted and Toby had a few extracted as well. Both are always together no matter how thick or thin. The shelter knew right away that they needed each other and had to be adopted together.

Georgina saw their sad little faces and knew right away that they were children worth taking home and loving. “We will always take care of them and give them all the love and safety they need.”

They fill out paperwork and officially make them part of their family. For the next few weeks, Toby and his brother took refuge in a hideout at their new home. “We have to feed them under the bed and they don’t come out unless we’re out of the house or asleep,” Georgina said. “In the end, they started to trust us but too slowly.”

Toby takes comfort from Quinton and follows him everywhere he goes. As Quinton becomes more confident, Toby will start to come out of his shell a little more. In the end, he will discover where his best friend, his shield, and guardian go after him.

Once they realized that they were safe and there was no need to fear, they began to bloom. “Toby was a sweet boy and always did whatever Quinton wanted.”

With each passing day, Toby grew a little taller and felt more comfortable in his own home. Then one day, he starts looking for affection from his person and even discovers hugs.

Now, whenever Georgina is in the kitchen making coffee, Toby will run over, stretch out to see what Mom is up to and ask for some presents.
